What is the
Human Givens Approach?
Human Givens has evolved to be a brief and effective solution-focused therapy and therapists will always work in the fewest sessions necessary. It quickly helps people return to a healthy and sustainable psychological state.
The organising idea behind Human Givens therapy is that human beings are born with a set of emotional needs, such as the need for good relationships, to have control over their lives or to find meaning in their activities. We are born with the skills to get these needs met but sometimes things go awry. When our needs are not met in balance, our system is put under stress resulting in mental ill-health.
A Human Givens therapist can help a client to meet their emotional needs so that they can get on with their lives with a renewed sense of well-being. It is a holistic approach and uses proven techniques from many effective therapies as well as insights and wisdom drawn from many sources such as psychology, neurobiology and sociology. It does not focus unduly upon the past but rather upon how the client can begin to move forward and to feel better.
Human Givens therapy is particularly suited to dealing with depression, anxiety and anxiety-related conditions, panic attacks, trauma, PTSD, anger management, phobias, social anxiety, stress, self-harm and counselling for young people.
Whatever your current difficulty, we can work together to make a difference in the here and now.
